Esta locución debe siempre construirse precedida de la preposición con. Lo cual quiere decir que la expresión a la mayor brevedad es incorrecta.

To have the upper hand

In English, if someone has the upper hand, they have power and control over someone or a situation.

Sinceramente, honradamente, honestamente

Honestidad y honradez no son equivalentes. Honestidad significa decencia, pudor, decoro, y honradez es la calidad de probo y el proceder recto, íntegro.

Está muy difundida la muletilla “se lo digo honestamente”, en lugar de “sinceramente, francamente”. Honestamente significa “con castidad”, “con modestia y cortesía”.

Yo creo que los utilizamos incorrectamente por influencia del adverbio inglés “honestly”, que significa “sinceramente”. Honestly y honestamente son parónimos (falsos amigos), porque no significan en el otro idioma lo que parece. También nos encontramos con la expresión “To be honest” (A decir verdad, para ser sinceros, y no “para ser honestos”).

-shower: ducha / to have a shower: ducharse
-bath: baño / to have a bath: bañarse

-breakfast: desayuno / to have breakfast: desayunar
-lunch: almuerzo / to have lunch: almorzar
-dinner: cena / to have dinner: cenar

Everyday, I have a shower at 7 a.m. Then, I have breakfast.
Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day.
